This page details my Lego NASA Apollo Saturn V build. The Lego NASA Apollo Saturn V kit arrived on 4th December 2018 and took two days to complete between 28/12/2018 and 29/12/2018. The Lego item number is 92176 and the kit consists of 1969 pieces, which rather coolly corresponds to the Apollo 11 launch year. :-) For details of the other Lego kits that I have completed so far see the main Lego Collection page of this website.
Build Details
This is a big model and stands over one metre tall when finished. The model comes with three stands so that it can be displayed horizontally. It can also stand vertically under its own weight which is my preferred option.
The finished rocket comes in three stages which can be detached from one another and also the Lunar Lander, which sits inside the top of the rocket. There are also three small astronaut figures which can be displayed alongside the finished model.
The whole build took two days between 28th and the 29th of December, 2018. This was my first Lego kit so the process was quite new to me, but overall the build was straight forward and the instructions clear and easy to follow.
The instruction manual that comes with this kit also includes details of the history of the Apollo Program which is a nice touch.
Summary
This was the first Lego kit that I attempted, and I think that the finished model is still my favourite. At over one metre tall the finished kit stands impressively in my home office.
Unfortunately, this model has now been retired by Lego which is a real shame. It would be nice if, in the future Lego were to release a model of the new Space Launch System rocket which forms the backbone of the Artemis Program. Let’s hope so. :-)
Update – 01/06/2024
